Drivers Confused By Closure Of Crosstown Ramp

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Waiting until after the morning rush hour, crews closed the Crosstown Boulevard Ramp Monday, but the closure is catching drivers by surprise.

"We're seeing a lot of drivers miss the detour, approach the Boulevard at the ramp, realize that it's closed, a moment of confusion and then they realize that they only have one other option and that's to continue on to the Liberty Bridge towards the south," PennDOT District 11 spokesman Jim Struzzi said.

Drivers coming off the Veterans Bridge must take the Sixth Avenue or Seventh Avenue exit downtown.

"If you miss that ramp, you're only other option then is to continue onto the Liberty Bridge," Struzzi said.

From the ramp, drivers can go on Ross Street or Grant Street to the Boulevard of the Allies parkway entrances at Grant and the Boulevard of the Allies.

Another alternative for drivers coming from the north would be to cross the Fort Duquesne Bridge and connect to the Parkway East.
