Jamie Dixon: Expect Freshmen 'To Give Us Significant Minutes'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pitt men's basketball head coach Jamie Dixon joined The Fan Morning Show Friday to talk about Pitt reaching a deal to move to the ACC in 2013, and to give an update on how his players have been faring in summer league action.

"I think it was best for everybody... it's good to have that question answered. Now we can look forward to this year in the Big East, and the ACC after that," Dixon said.

He said having J.J. Moore and Tray Woodall out during the spring and summer has been rough, but noted that they should be ready to get back in the fold once school starts. He added that Trey Zeigler and John Johnson battled injuries in the past couple weeks as well. He also discussed how the team has taken advantage of a new rule that allows players to work out two hours a week for eight weeks during the summer.

He said that Pitt's group of incoming freshmen- Steven Adams, James Robinson, and Chris Jones- have made a strong impression on him.

"I think these guys are physically and mentally [ready] to give us significant minutes. I think the mental part of it is what really sticks out," Dixon said.

He was especially effusive in his praise for Adams.

"He's been excited to come to Pittsburgh for four years really. That's how long he committed to us... it was his goal from when we started talking to his coaches and his family... It's just fun to see a guy who's so excited to come from thousands of miles away," Dixon said.
