PSU Official Denies Paterno Statue Decision Has Been Made

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The debate over whether to take down a statue of Joe Paterno took another twist on Friday.

According to posts on Twitter from sports reporter Bonnie Bernstien and the NFL Network's Kimberly Jones, Penn State plans to take down the statue

The reports said the Board of Trustees voted on a conference call Thursday night to remove the statue this weekend.

However, Dave LaTorre, a Penn State spokesman, has told KDKA-TV he doesn't know of any such decision.

The statue has become a point of contention in the aftermath of the Freeh Report.

All week, a plane has been flying over Beaver Stadium with a banner that reads, 'Take the statue down or we will.'

In response, some students have started a vigil to keep watch over the statue.
