2nd Bear Spotted At Pittsburgh Mills Mall

FRAZER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Two bear sightings this weekend in or around a local shopping mall have some shoppers on edge, but game officials are ready.

Frazer Police are continuing to push the second bear out of public places while the Game Commission is taking charge of the situation and is hoping to safely capture the bear.

Around 6:30 a.m. Monday, another furry friend frequented the Pittsburgh Mills Mall. It was spotted around several restaurants.

Frazer Police, dealing with the second bear in just days, were able to shoo the large adult bear into the woods behind Walmart.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission was called to set a trap in an attempt to safely capture the bear.

A Game Commission spokesman can't say for certain, but believes the second bear may be a male and could possibly be following the scent of the young adult female bear that made its way into Sears on Saturday.

The spokeperson said the female was under 150 pounds and had previously been captured just outside of Johnstown for a study.

It was released with a tracking device and traveled roughly 100 or more miles to Grove City and then another 50 or so, when it was found and captured again on Saturday at the Pittsburgh Mills Mall.

Mall management said they are concerned, but believe appropriate measures are in place to protect customers.

They released a statement saying:

"Pittsburgh Mills is very concerned with the bear sightings around the property. We work very close with Frazer Police Department, which is based within the mall, on all issues concerning public safety. In this case the Pennsylvania Game Commission has been contacted for help in resolving this issue."

Police and the Game Commission said that if you see a bear, keep your distance and contact authorities.
