NEW CASTLE (KDKA) — A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze Sunday evening in Lawrence County.

Firefighters were called to the building in the 100-block of East Washington Street in New Castle shortly before 9 p.m.

While battling the smoke and flames, crews said part of the structure collapsed and trapped one New Castle firefighter for several minutes.

The building was evacuated as crews worked to free him.

The firefighter is being treated at Jameson Hospital.

There’s no word on his condition.
