Breast Care Center Opens At Forbes Regional Hospital

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) -- Highmark opened the doors to its new comprehensive breast care center at Forbes Regional Hospital, giving Pittsburgh women a one-stop shopping approach to breast health.

"Another example of our system providing needs to the community by providing care for women," an official said.

From digital mammography to breast ultrasound and direct digital stereotactic breast biopsy services, this comprehensive facility can handle it all.

All of the services are important, but what may mean the most are same day results, alleviating the stress of worrying about an abnormal test.

"We tell our patients when they check in if they want that opportunity – okay they may have to wait a little bit, they may have to sit here an hour, but they will get their answer today," William Poller with AGH Health System said.

Professionals say detection is the key to survival, so being able to offer another way to do so especially in an advanced setting is a dream realized.

"Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death," Poller said. "One in eight women will get breast cancer and anything we can do to make diagnosis earlier to save lives is the way to go."

The center is part of a $20 million investment in women's health.

Allegheny General and West Penn hospitals have the services as well, but the new location is aimed at eliminating the hassle of making a trip into the city.
