Liberty Bridge Ramp To Close This Weekend

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Drivers are getting a break this weekend – sort of.

The "bathtub" section of the Parkway East downtown – also known as Parkway Central will be completely closed until noon Saturday.

Crews will be continuing to work on that little tunnel under the Grant Street intersection.

The other major closure will impact folks coming towards town on the Liberty Bridge and kicks in an hour after the bathtub work.

The ramp from the northbound or inbound Liberty Bridge to the Crosstown Boulevard will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday.

They still have a lot of work to do stabilizing that wall beneath the Duquesne bluff

What you won't see this weekend is a closing of the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and that challenging detour through Point Breeze and Squirrel Hill.

The tunnel is remaining open because of the weekend of activity at PNC Park. That said, with six more weekends of closures needed to complete the work, future conflicts may not be avoidable.

"A lot of things are starting to happen now going into fall, the Steelers start playing, the Pirates are continuing to do great, so they have a lot of sellout crowds and we're going to try to minimize the impacts as much as we can," PennDOT's Jim Struzzi said. "There are going to be weekends where we're going to affect people."
