20-Year-Old Rescued From Montour Creek

ROBINSON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 20-year-old man was rescued after falling 20 feet into a creek bed near Robinson Township.

The man was severely injured after slipping off a rope swing and falling into water.

Emergency crews went to the Montour Creek watering hole off Costco Drive. It's private property, but a popular gathering place for young people during the summer.

The 20-year-old was with friends who managed to pull him from the water. It wasn't easy for crews to reach the victim.

"Fairly inaccessible because the closest way is from Montour Run, but the water is 20-foot deep, so we had to come in from the opposite side which would have been the COSTCO side," Moon Run Volunteer Fire Chief Paul Kashmet said.

"We came in, we got all our equipment, our stokes and everything and we just hoofed it all down into there. We found the victim. He was on a ledge. They had already pulled him out of the water."

The man suffered head and neck injuries. He was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital.

Robinson Township police are investigating whether alcohol played a role in the accident.
