Shooting In Beltzhoover Claims Life Of 19-Year-Old

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are searching for suspects after a 19-year-old was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh's Beltzhoover section.

Pittsburgh police have identified the victim as 19-year-old Daimond Hill. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

A neighbor was working in her yard when she says she heard the sound of rapid gunfire.

"I heard gunshots, seven or eight of them, and ducked," she said. "It's a normal occurrence around here the last couple of weeks, hearing gunshots. It's even scarier when you're out in the yard."

Police say Hill was gunned down just after 12:15 p.m. while standing in front of his house at Curtin Street and Climax Street.

"A 19-year-old male apparently was shot and unresponsive," Commander Thomas Stangrecki, of Pittsburgh Police, said. "The medics were able to revive the victim and take him to Mercy Hospital. I've since learned that the male has passed away."

An SUV was towed away from the scene for evidence after detectives found several bullet holes in the vehicle. Police say no arrests have been made and no motive has been determined, but they are investigating a report of two men seen running from the area after the shooting.

"We're asking for anyone with information to contact the Pittsburgh Homicide Squad," Stangrecki said.

It's the second unsolved murder in the city this weekend. Harold Young, 17, was shot and killed just before 2 a.m. Saturday in the 2200-block of Bedford Avenue in the Hill District.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

"It's unfortunate for the victims and the victims' family to have to suffer through this, but we're going to work our hardest to take these suspects off the street," Commander Stangrecki added.

Anyone with information should contact the police at 412-323-7161.
