Tanker Leaks Diesel Fuel For A Mile In Blawnox

BLAWNOX (KDKA) -- Officials say they plan to cite the driver of a tanker truck after a messy diesel fuel leak shut down a stretch of road in Blawnox late Thursday night.

The spill stretched for about a mile on Freeport Road near Humboldt Street.

Authorities say they believe the leak was caused by one of the valves not being properly closed on the fully-loaded, gas-filling tanker.

Police are citing the driver for multiple offenses, including leaving the scene of an accident and driving with an unsecured load.

There's no word exactly on how much fuel spilled from the tanker, but it took 24 bags of "oil-dry" material to clean up the mess.

The road has since been fully reopened.
