Uniontown Attempted Robbery Caught On Surveillance Video

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- Police are searching for a suspect following an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Fayette County that was captured on surveillance video.

Jamal Nurillaev has been the manager at the A-Plus Sunoco on Connellsville Street in Uniontown for about three years.

He had never been robbed until a man walked into the store around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Nurillaev wasn't behind the counter at the time; surveillance video shows the suspect going to find him in a back office. Thinking quickly, Nurillaev sprays the man with pepper spray, goes behind the counter where he began throwing things, including a stapler, cigarettes, a bottle of cleaner and a can of Red Bull.

The surveillance video shows the suspect wielding a knife the entire time.

When he goes to leave, he gets frustrated because Nurillaev locked the door.

The suspect threatens to hurt Nurillaev if he doesn't unlock the door, so Nurillaev lets the man out. The clerk wasn't injured and the robber didn't get any money.

"They always say an appropriate thing to do is to cooperate and do what they ask," said Lt. Thomas Kolencik, of Uniontown Police. "In this case, he didn't and it worked out for him."

If you recognize the man in the video or have information about robbery, you are asked to call Uniontown Police.
