Propane Tanker Rolls Into Beaver Co. Creek

BEAVER (KDKA) - A propane tanker truck accident sent Hazmat teams to Beaver County Monday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the accident happened at the intersection of Route 51 and Constitution Boulevard around 11 a.m.

Fire officials say the tanker truck was carrying 3,000 gallons of liquid propane when it went over a hillside and rolled into a creek bed in Patterson Township.

Crews sprayed foam and called in a crane to lift the tanker back up onto the road.

"The foam is just precautionary because propane, what happens is when it leaks out it lays low to the ground, foam will create a blanket and hold that propane to the ground and not let it become so much airborne," said Assistant Fire Chief Phil Graeser, of the Patterson Township Fire Co.

The driver of the truck was taken to Heritage Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.

There's no word on the driver's condition.
