Indiana Co. Man Accused Of Shooting Girlfriend To Stand Trial

GREENE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An Indiana County man will stand trial for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

John Reome is accused of luring his girlfriend to their home by telling her that she needed to take care of their puppies.

He then shot her at point blank range through the front door with a shotgun. The shot entered the woman's stomach and exited her back. Her father had to plug the hole with his thumb.

It happened at the couple's Greene Township home in January.

Police initially did not think the woman would survive. She spent more than 40 days in the hospital and was treated by six surgeons. She spent five days in a medically-induced coma.

Prosecutors called the woman inspirational. She took the stand today and showed the court her scar which she says she will "have to live with for the rest of her life."

Defense attorneys argue that Reome has severe mental health problems. They also say that because the shot went through the bottom half of the door, there was an intent to injure as opposed to kill.

Reome is being held at the Indiana County Jail on $250,000 bond.
