Local Couple Thankful After Family Member's Close Call In Hawaii

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local couple has been praying after their daughter-in-law fell 300 feet while hiking on a trail in Hawaii.

Daniel Bryant's dad and step-mother, Bob and Clara Bryant of Mount Chesnut, are thankful Agnes Bryant is alive.

She has a collapsed lung, broken ribs and a broken wrist, and was initially in critical condition after falling off the trail last week.

"I was afraid when he called, and he said she fell 300 feet that I was going to have to get a flight to Hawaii for a funeral," said Bob Bryant.

His son lives in Hawaii with Agnes, and was at work when the accident happened.

Bob Bryant says the ground gave way under her feet as she hiked with two friends.

He says it took three hours for rescue workers to get to her, but they could hear her screams.

Agnes Bryant has had surgery and is doing better. She's now listed in fair condition.

Clara Bryant says she's been praying and has been asking others to do the same.

"I think God has worked a lot of miracles for that girl," said Bob Bryant. "She shouldn't have survived, and she did."
