PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates’ broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the guys on The Fan Morning Show today for the final 2012 edition of his weekly spot, “Walk on Wednesday,” with the Pirates standing at 79-82 going into today’s finale.

He looked back at the Pirates’ roller coaster 2012 season, reminiscing about some of the positives, but examining some of the work that needs to be done as the team looks toward the future.

He felt free agency could be important for the Bucs, but he added that he is wary of how spending money on free agents can go awry.

“You are going to have to put out some kind of money for somebody,” he said. “You just have to be real careful with it.”

He didn’t expect the Pirates to pass on tendering contracts to any arbitration-eligible players, but he did name a few guys that he thinks could potentially be traded.

He said he doesn’t foresee this season’s collapse being a major factor in the team’s mindset entering next year.
