Local Company's Baby Products Taking Off With Celebs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- John Travolta and Kelly Preston have three - one for each house, actress Natalie Portman has one and so does Mariah Carey.

We're talking about baby products created right here in Pittsburgh and now you can have the chance to win one too.

Celebrity magazines seem to obsess over babies and baby bumps, and the baby business has never been better with more than $8 billion in sales expected this year.

Take the Origami Stroller for example, with the push of a button, it opens and folds up.

The Origami also features headlights, an LED dashboard with odometer; it tells the temperature and even charges your cell phone.

Jennifer Garner had hers out on the street this past weekend in California and Kourtney Kardashian has taken hers to Disneyworld.

All of the research and development for those juvenile products was done in this building on 24th Street in the Strip District. The company, started in 2005, is called 4Moms.

"We've experienced great revenue growth, 200 to 400 percent each year," said Emily Cappo, of 4Moms.

Not surprisingly, one of 4Moms co-founders is a Carnegie Mellon University graduate and local engineering talent is one of the reasons they chose Pittsburgh for a headquarters.

"The products have a lot of robotics technology in them," said Cappo.

The 4Mom's products are pricey - the stroller is $800. The portable Breeze Play Yard runs $300; and the Mamaroo Infant Seat - with its five different motions and nature sounds is between $200 and $240.

It gives moms and nurses a break at local hospitals like West Penn where they've used Mamaroos for a year.

But if you don't have a celebrity bank account, 4Moms is giving away a Mamaroo every single week.

All you have to do is write them a letter online telling them why you need one. Click the link below for more information:
