Missing Hiker Found In Fayette County

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 73-year-old woman used her dog to keep warm after she became lost in Laurel Ridge State Park in Fayette County overnight.

Search crews scoured the woods for any signs of Jane Connelly and her dog.

She went hiking with another person, but they became separated around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Connelly took shelter overnight and used her dog for warmth.

Searchers found her about 8:30 a.m. and park officials say she did the right thing.

"Temperatures were down last night, which didn't bode well, but again, she was smart when she did get lost," said Mike Mumau, the operations manager for the park. "The best thing you can do is stay put and that's exactly what she did."

Connelly was said to be in good spirits when she was found.

She was examined at the scene and taken to the hospital as a precaution.
