Vigil Held For McKees Rocks Shooting Victim

MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) – Friends and family gathered to remember a young father who was shot and killed in McKees Rocks one year ago.

The family said this was all a case of mistaken identity and there are still no answers as to who pulled the trigger.

"Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. He always had jokes. He was friends with everybody," Dion Davis said.

Friends of Robert "Louie" McGhee said the past year has been a long and difficult one.

On Oct. 6, 2011, McGhee was shot and killed after he got into his car and started the engine.

McGhee was leaving a friend's house on Edgar Way around 11:30 p.m. when someone opened fire.

It is a situation the mother of McGhee's two little girls said was a case of mistaken identity because he was a friend to everyone in the neighborhood.

"I just want answers and I'm praying that the Lord sees this and we get the answers that me and my family deserve to have," Veronica Kraus said.

On Saturday, those who loved Louie released white balloons into the night sky with messages of love and hope that the person responsible for his death will be found and punished.

"We're seeking justice, but justice seems like it's a bit slow coming," Bobby McGhee said.

At the Meyers Ridge housing complex, his daughters now move forward in life with the uncertainty of who stole their father's life.

Kraus said she is fighting to change that daily.

"I want to be able to tell my girls that the person responsible is behind bars," Kraus said.

Some wonder if they'll ever be able to heal the open wounds.

"There will probably never be no closure in a situation like this," Davis said.

There is a reward for information leading to an arrest in this case and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
