Overnight Blaze Destroys Firefighter's Home

FINLEYVILLE (KDKA)— Finleyville's Jimmy Askins Jr. has been a firefighter for years, however overnight, he would battle flames at an address all too familiar.

Early Monday morning, Finleyville firefighters responded to the scene of a fire to find the mobile home belonged to one of their own.

"We were sitting back in the bedroom and my oldest daughter said that there was a light haze of smoke and that she smelled something burning," Askins say.

Askins then traced the flames to the furnace room.

"I opened up the door and it was like opening up the door to satin's pit," Askins says.

Askins, his pregnant wife and two daughters managed to escape the blaze without injury.

"You literally have seconds," Askins says. "If we were sleeping, I wouldn't be talking to you right now."
