Celebrity Tennis Match Raises $1 Million

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Mylan World Team Tennis Smash Hits celebrity tennis game raised $1 million Tuesday night.

It was a record-breaking amount for the annual benefit, which raises money for the Elton John AIDS foundation.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force.

Elton John paired with Billie Jean King to host the event at the Peterson Events Center in Oakland.

John and King both coached celebrity-filled teams with the likes of Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, and Stefanie Graf. King's team won the match.

The event raised $375,000 through a silent auction. Two bidders each paid $100,000 for tickets to see John's "The Million Dollar Piano" show in Las Vegas, as well as dinner with him and King.

Another bidder also paid $55,000 for a tennis hitting session with Agassi and Graf.

This year marked the 20th anniversary for the event.
