Shooting In Garfield Leaves 1 Dead

GARFIELD (KDKA) - By all appearances, the violence seems to be growing in Garfield, with an increasing number of shootings, including another fatality last night at the hands of a gunman still on the loose.

As word of his death spread, friends were posting a picture of 20-year-old Rudolph "Rudy" Freeman on social media sites..

As family arrived at the scene, police had to tell the news to yet another mother that her son was dead at the hands of gun violence in Garfield.

Pittsburgh Police Commander Thomas Stangrecki said Freeman, who has a history of arrests and was currently waiting for a preliminary hearing on charges of simple assault and terroristic threats, was at a home at the Garfield Commons visiting friends, when he was shot on the back patio. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A young man who was a guest at the house on Mossfield Street had stepped out into the back, a short time later shots rang out," Cmdr. Stangrecki said.

At the next door neighbor's house, signs are posted saying, "Stop shooting, we love you."

Just last week, 16-year-old Ne'Ondre Harbour was shot and killed.

The next day another shooting, believed to be connected, sent a man to the hospital. Those are just two of the recent shootings.

As this investigation gets underway, police were eying security cameras hoping for a lead.

Pittsburgh Police remind that if you have a tip, you can stay anonymous and anyone with information is asked to call police.
