Slush-Covered Road Aids In Fatal Accident

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (KDKA) – One woman died Monday as a result of the massive storm caused by Hurricane Sandy.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on State Route 281 in Turkeyfoot Township.

The woman, 81-year-old Alice Hynes of Williamstown, Ma., was a passenger in a car that lost control on a snow and slush covered road.

Abigail O'Connor, the driver, and Hynes were traveling along the road, when the car veered off across double lines and into a small farm pond.

O'Connor was able to free herself, but not Hynes.

Hynes was later transported to Somerset Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
