Autopsy Shows Fayette Co. Baby Likely Died Of Viral Pneumonia

SOUTH CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) -- There's new information on an investigation into the death of a baby in Fayette County.

There were some highly unusual circumstances in the case so police said that they were being extremely vigilant with their investigation.

But an autopsy conducted Thursday afternoon showed that there were no signs of trauma and the little girl likely died of viral pneumonia.

Police were first called to a house in the 1800-block of South Pittsburgh Street in South Connellsville around noon Wednesday after the 7-month old girl was found dead in her crib.

The little girl's father called 911 after realizing that Alaizha Fitzgerald wasn't breathing.

Sources tell KDKA's Trina Orlando the baby had possibly been there for hours.

State police interviewed family members as a matter of procedure in the case.
