Environmental Officials Investigate After Local Creek Turns Blue

CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) -- The state Department of Environmental Protection is investigating the odd blue color in a local creek.

On Wednesday, Connellsville-Breakneck Run turned the mysterious blue, and Fayette County Hazmat responded.

According to DEP spokesperson John Poister, Hazmat determined it was concrete dye that came from a nearby home where some work was being done.

Poister says it appears to be an accident, but it's unclear if there could be any fines.

He says their investigation continues, and they'll try to determine if there is damage to the creek's aquatic life.

By Thursday night, the blue color was gone from the water, although it was unclear if some of the rocks may still have a slight bluish cast.
