Unsecured Medical Records, Bio-Waste Found In Abandoned Monsour Medical Center
JEANNETTE (KDKA) -- Armed with a search warrant, Jeannette officials entered the abandoned Monsour Medical Center in Westmoreland County, finding literally thousands of unsecure medical files as well as medical waste.
"This is bio-waste," said Scott Avolio, Jeannette city attorney, of some blood and skin slides found in one room.
After four bankruptcies, Monsour closed in 2006 becoming the site of vandalism, squatters and fires; and now Jeannette officials want state health and environmental agencies to secure the site.
"It's a danger every time our officers have to come in here," Avolio said.
Ultimately, they'd like it torn down and the site redeveloped.
However, Jeannette doesn't have the money.
