Steelers Release Rookie Lineman Alameda Ta'amu

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Steelers say they have released rookie defensive lineman Alameda Ta'amu to make room on their roster for another player.

Last month, Ta'amu was arrested on Pittsburgh's South Side.

He is accused of driving under the influence, smashing into several cars and causing thousands of dollars in damage. He's also accused of resisting arrest.

The Steelers are not saying this has anything to do with his release.

At a hearing earlier last week, lawyers for both sides said that they are trying to negotiate payment to the owners of the damaged vehicles outside of court.

According to the team, they have added wide receiver David Gilreath to their active roster. He has spent the first nine weeks of the season on the practice squad.

Ta'amu was the Steelers' 2012 fourth-round draft pick.
