The Christmas Shopping Season Is Upon Us

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- Rob Pratte talked to Duquesne University Marketing Professor Dr. Audrey Gusky about holiday shopping.

Gusky said she thinks consumers will spend the same amount they did last year.

Gusky and Pratte discussed Black Friday and how stores are opening even earlier on Thanksgiving evening.

She says that people are still doing the traditional shopping, but a lot of people are doing their Black Saturday shopping online. She also says that consumers need to be aware that there isn't going to be as much inventory, so the longer people wait -- the more they have to be flexible on what they are going to buy.

Although shocking,  Gusky says that 40 percent of people have started their Christmas shopping already.

Now that Hostess has gone bankrupt, Gusky and Pratte mentioned Twinkies too.
