Fans Optimistic With Batch Against Cleveland
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - When word broke that Bryon Leftwhich was injured and Plaxico Burress was possibly coming back to the Steelers, Twitter, Facebook, bars and dinner tables were all buzzing.
Tuesday morning brought no end to the talk either.
For the members of Steeler Nation, this is a time of great concern.
"I'm starting to get worried," Kandis Rogers said. "Worried as in not even getting close [to the playoffs.]"
Dealing with a series of injuries, the Steelers find themselves down to third-string quarterback Charlie Batch. Ben Rothlesberger and Byron Leftwitch are out with rib ailments that were suffered in consecutive weeks.
"I want to see Charlie Batch in there," Pat Ervin said.
With Batch under center, the Steelers are 5-2, but what happens if he gets hurt?
"If Charlie gets hurt, from what I understand they're supposed to bring in Tyler Palko," Randy Mitchell said.
Palko is just one of several names being mentioned.
In addition to the quarterbacks being dinged up, the receiving corps is also hurting. Sources far and wide are now claiming Burress could return to the fold.
Burress is a former number one draft pick of the Steelers and reportedly been meeting with management.
According to sources, Burress was at UPMC St. Margaret receiving what was likely a physical.
However, he does have baggage.
After a Super Bowl winning performance with the New York Giants, he went to jail after accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
Desperate times call for desperate measures and some see a potential Burress signing as a good thing.
"I think its a good idea. I think he's a good receiver down in the red zone because of his size and I still think he has the ability to play the game," Mitchell said. "We all deserve a second chance."
