Teen In "Grave" Condition After Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A teenage boy was revived after a near-fatal shooting Thursday night in McKeesport.

Police were called just after 8 p.m. to the 900-block of Craig Street near the entrance of the Crawford Village housing complex.

Officers found a group of young men and a young victim.

"There was an exchange of gunfire between that group and another group of young men," said Lt. Andrew Schurman, of Allegheny County Police. "A 16-year-old was struck by one of the bullets and critically injured."

Police say at least eight shots were fired.

The victim, whose name is not being released, was struck once in the back of the neck. He was rushed to UPMC McKeesport and then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

At some point, the teen was declared dead, but doctors were able to revive him.

Police say they are hoping someone with information on who pulled the trigger comes forward.

"I'm sure there was some people who may have seen something suspicious or heard something, we haven't had a chance to talk to you yet, so we'd like to hear from them," said Lt. Schurman. "They can call McKeesport Police or the County Police.

As far as motive, police say they believe the shooting was because of an ongoing dispute between young men at the Crawford Village and the Harrison Village complexes.
