Police Probe Pair Of Thefts At Scott Township Churches

SCOTT TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Scott Township Police are investigating a pair of thefts at local Catholic churches.

One took place at Saints Simon & Jude Church on Greentree Road, and the other at Our Lady of Victory Church on Lindsay Road.

Police say both thefts took place during the daylight hours and involved either a money box or lock box.

At Sts. Simon & Jude, church administrator Fr. Jay Donahue told KDKA-TV: "The money was taken from a box that was beneath the votive candles."

Donahue said the box was bolted and it was ripped off its stand.

Fr. Donahue said not a great deal of money was stolen, "but it causes concern because we want every dime to go where people want it go."

On Monday night, Scott Police say no one has been charged in either theft, but progress is being made in the investigation.

Despite what happened, Fr. Donahue says he has no plans to lock the church doors during the daylight hours.
