Man Wounded In McKees Rocks Shooting Identified

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened when a young man was wounded during a shootout in McKees Rocks Tuesday evening.

McKees Rocks Police were called to Amelia Street just before 8 p.m. near the corner of Chartiers Avenue close to the Bottom Dollar store.

There they found 24-year-old Andre Palmer with a gunshot wound to the head.

"I thought he got hit by a car. I thought he was underneath the back tire; and then when I went over, I mean there was just people there looking and looking and trying to talk to him, but he was saying he couldn't breathe and then I saw all the blood on his head," said one witness.

Police say Palmer was in a black Chevy sedan in the back seat behind a female driver when he was shot. The window was shattered.

Just before the shots rang out, police say Palmer went into a nearby store where he got into a fight or confrontation with some people inside.

Minutes later, bullets started flying.

Police say they are investigating the possibility that shots were fired from both outside the car and from another passenger inside the vehicle. About 12 rounds total.

Witnesses on the scene say the driver of the vehicle seemed panicked.

They say she was yelling, "Get him out of my car!"

"I seen her coming out of the car while talking on a cell phone, dragging a kid out of the backseat of that car with one hand and tried to dump him on the street there," said one witness who did not want to be identified.

The victim remains in Allegheny General Hospital.
