Greensburg Pedestrian Accident Leaves 1 Dead

GREENSBURG (KDKA) - A pedestrian accident in Westmoreland County left one man dead Thursday morning, but the driver is not likely to face charges.

The accident happened during the height of the morning rush hour in Greensburg, but after their investigation, police believe it was simply an accident.

"There's always a lot of traffic around Westmoreland Hospital,"Greensburg Police Captain George Seranko said.

That traffic turned deadly for John Michael Spino, 56, of Greensburg, when he stepped into traffic near the intersection of West Newton Street and Spring Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

"Approximately 40 feet north of the cross walk, individual walked out in front of her, where her vehicle struck him," Captain Seranko said.

Police said it's not clear why he stepped into traffic but he may have been distracted.

"When she struck him, she stopped as soon as she could and waited until personnel came," Captain Seranko said.

Spino lived nearby and was routinely out walking at that time of day.
