Woman Shot By Daughter Through Front Door

ELLIOTT (KDKA) - A woman is recovering after being shot by her daughter in the Elliott section of Pittsburgh overnight.

According to police, India Rayzer stood in front of the door, rang the doorbell and then knocked at the home on Crucible Street around 1:30 a.m.

Her mother, Eloise, was sleeping on the couch at the time.

"She walks over to the door, pulls the curtain to the side, looking out and sees her daughter standing on the porch," Pittsburgh Police Cmdr. Scott Schubert said.

It has been a year since Rayzer has had any contact with her mom.

Police said Eloise saw a handgun, which was raised and fired and shattered both storm and front doors.

"The one bullet did strike the face - grazed it - and actually ricocheted down into the shoulder," Cmdr Schubert said,

Eloise Rayzer called Theresa Jenks from the hospital.

"She's a miracle because it only got her once in the shoulder and it was a flesh wound," Jenks said.

Since October, Eloise has been a volunteer at the new West End Works Employment Center at Emanuel United Methodist Church.

"Helping other people looking for jobs - just really a warm, wonderful woman," Jenks said.

According to police, 27-year-old India Rayzer, is said to suffer from schizophrenia and is bipolar.

"My heart went out to her and her family and I began to pray," Jenks said.

As of Thursday afternoon, India Rayzer was taken into police custody.
