Bystanders Rescue Man From Fayette Co. Fire
CONNELLSVILLE (KDKA) - Bystanders helped pull a man from a house fire in Fayette County early Monday morning.
According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at a home on East Crawford Street in Connellsville, around 2:45 a.m.
"Someone came to the door and they were pounding extremely hard. The loudest pounding I've ever heard in my life, ringing the doorbell incessantly," neighbor Ashley Weimer said.
Firefighters from five communities were called to battle the blaze. Investigators believe the fire may have started on the back porch and spread quickly.
Terry Dave, 35, of Mount Pleasant, was driving by and saw the flames. Dave acted quickly and kicked the door in to save the man inside.
"I'm so thankful that he did that because we were all sleeping. I don't know if I would have woken up," Weimer said.
Weimer's house suffered heat damage as a result of the fire next door.
The man inside the home was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital's Intensive Care Unit with respiratory injuries. His current condition is unknown.
