Hearing For Freedom Area Teacher Accused Of Using Drugs Postponed

BEAVER (KDKA) -- A former gym teacher, accused of using drugs in a Beaver County school, is waiting for his day in court.

James Summers worked at Freedom Area Senior High School.

Police say surveillance video captured him inhaling a substance in his office, and later allegedly sharing it with a juvenile.

A hearing that was scheduled for Thursday was postponed.

"We're still waiting on some critical information," said James Colafella, the defense attorney. "He's continuing on trying to get better, and continue to treat, and he's hopeful that this thing is going to resolve and he'll be able to put it behind him and move on with his life."

Summers' attorney says his client is still waiting on lab results from the state police. He says Summers continues with a treatment program.

Summers was removed from the classroom and has resigned from his position with the district.

He faces drug paraphernalia and corruption of minors charges. More charges could be added depending on the crime lab test results.
