Matt Cooke Is Geared Up For Start Of NHL Season

PITTSBURGH (93.7 THE FAN) - The Fan Morning Show spoke to Penguins winger, Matt Cooke on Tuesday Morning. Cooke will be joining his teammates at Consol Energy Center for practice Tuesday, just three days after a new CBA was announced between the NHL and NHLPA.

Matt found out about the end of the lockout the same way Sidney Crosby did, with a wake up call on Monday morning. He said he couldn't fall back to sleep because he was so excited.

During the darkest days of the lockout, Matt says that he tried to stay positive that a deal would get done. But, there were times that it was hard to believe that they would play hockey this year.

Brandon Sutter will be the new third-line center, and Matt could be his winger. Matt says that he likes the way that Brandon plays the game and would enjoy playing alongside the newcomer.

Matt feels for the fans and the local business owners around Consol Energy Center. He can only hope that the salvaged season will help those who were affected by the lockout, and that the team can entertain the city that loves watching hockey.
