Jay Caufield: Chemistry Will Be A Major Hurdle For NHL Teams This Season

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- ROOT Sports' Penguins analyst Jay Caufield joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday to talk about the team's hastened preparation for the season, after the NHL lockout ended over the weekend.

He felt that one of the biggest challenges of having a short training camp is becoming a cohesive unit, integrating new players and getting linemates in tune with one another.

He also mentioned conditioning and injuries as major concerns.

He explained that, while having played overseas during the work stoppage might help some guys, the effect of this on the team as a whole might be limited.

"I think it's big from an individual standpoint," Caufield said. "But still, you've got to work with teammates that haven't been playing games."

He said that the extra time off could be highly beneficial to Sidney Crosby's health.

"If there's a silver lining in this whole thing, it's that he's had even more time to recover and not take another shot," Caufield said.
