Volunteer Firefighter Helps Family Escape West Deer Fire
WEST DEER (KDKA) – A family escaped injury after a fire broke out at their home in West Deer Sunday morning.
According to officials at the scene, the fire broke out at a home in the 4500-block of Dawn Road around 5:40 a.m.
A volunteer firefighter was on her way to work when she saw the fire and stopped to alert the family. As a result, all were able to escape safely.
There are no reported injuries, but three adults and three children were displaced.
There is no word on what caused the fire, but it is believed to have started in the attic of the home. However, there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family at this time.
