Getting Ready For "Super" Commercials

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - The Steelers aren't in this year's Super Bowl, so we look toward Sunday for the other big event -- the commercials.

Who will be the winners and losers in this year's Ad Bowl?

How will advertisers use their $3.8 million for 30 seconds?

KDKA-AM's Larry and John talk to Dr. Robert Thompson, TV and pop culture expert, about the impact of Super Bowl ads, what ads work best and which one we should watch for.

"The reason these ads are so good during the Super Bowl is that we keep getting told that it's better than the game and the ads are so great, and we've come to believe it," Thompson said. "But half the time there is so many people in the house, and they're half in the bag, that what ever they look at is funny."

Thompson also talks about how advertisers are releasing their ads early, which he thinks diminishes the ads' overall impact.
