Prosecutors: Taxpayers Cheated Over $30K By Orie Melvin Campaigns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The corruption trial for suspended State Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie Melvin resumed Thursday morning.

Prosecutors estimate that taxpayers were cheated out of $27,702.68 in state employee time and effort during Orie Melvin's 2003 Supreme Court campaign.

Prosecutors also estimated that taxpayers were cheated out of $5,773.03 during the 2009 campaign.

The figures were introduced to support the prosecution's argument that the suspended justice is guilty of theft of services.

The prosecution is expected to rest its case later today.
