Keisel Shears His Beard Again For Good Cause

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It was the third annual Mountain Man Makeover.

Steelers' defensive end Brett Keisel held his annual Shear The Beard event Thursday night at Jergel's Rhythm Grille in Warrendale.

Keisel's wife and son were the first to cut off a chunk of that famous, grizzly beard.

Then, it was a who's who of Steeler barbers - including Dan Rooney, Mike Tomlin, Dick LeBeau, Ben Roethlisberger and Heath Miller.

Keisel then went backstage to do a little shaving of his own and eventually re-emerged, beard free.

The money raised from the event goes to cancer programs at Children's Hospital where former Steeler Aaron Smith's son was treated for leukemia five years ago.

Keisel says that's part of what makes this event so special.

"Aaron Smith taught me so much about being a man and about football and living basically," said Keisel. "Their family got a lot of help from Children's Hospital, so it's a very prideful thing for me to give back basically in the honor of Elijah Smith and Aaron Smith and what they've done for me in my life."

Keisel says he never imagined his beard would be able to do as much good as it's done over the past three years.
