Mother Accused Of Using Daughter To Get Drugs

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) – A Scott Township mother is accused of using her daughter in order to get drugs.

In District Court on Thursday, a judge ruled that 21-year-old Scott Kunak will stand trial on statutory sex assault charges.

KDKA's Christine D'Antonio: "Anything to say?"

Kunak: "No comment, no comment."

That was Kunak on Thursday evening after learning he will stand trial.

In the criminal complaint, the details of how he initially met the 14-year-old are clear.

According to the complaint, it was the girl's mother who initially asked her 14-year-old daughter where she could get the prescription pills Xanax and Kolonopin.

KDKA is not releasing the mother's name in order to protect the child's identity.

According to the complaint, the teenager asked a friend at Chartiers Valley Middle School who told her his uncle, Kunak, could help.

Police say the 14-year-old met Kunak at Carnegie Park where she exchanged the cash for her mother's drugs.

The pattern continued until the fourth or fifth time when investigators say the 14-year-old's mother went with her, met the suspect and then invited him back to their Scott Township home. It was then that police say Kunak and the minor allegedly had sex for the first time in her bedroom.

Afterwards, authorities say Kunak told police he helped the girl with her homework. The sexual relationship allegedly continued for about a month and ended about two weeks ago.

According to the criminal complaint, it was the principal of Chartiers Valley Middle School who contacted Scott Township Police.

The criminal complaint reports that the 14-year-old told the suspect her age after they had already had sex, but that the acts continued after he knew.

Investigators say the child also said her mother gave her and Kunak permission to date because her mom needed the pills.
