1 Dead, 1 Injured In Beltzhoover Shooting
BELTZHOOVER (KDKA) -- Six children are now without a mother after a double-shooting in Beltzhoover Thursday morning.
According to police, a woman was gunned down and another man was injured when the bullets started flying.
KDKA-TV's Heather Abraham spoke with the victim's mother and a friend who said Tiona Jackson was a loving mother and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Tears were shed outside of Pittsburgh Police headquarters, mourning the death of 28-year-old Jackson
The shooting happened on Vincent Street, near the intersection with East Warrington Avenue around 1:30 a.m.
"Six beautiful grandkids and it's a shame that they had to wake up to endeavor some news like this," Jackson's mother, Rhonda Sowell, said.
"Six kids. Why would somebody do this to her? It's just so hurtful," Nikki Bell said.
Jackson was with a 32-year-old man, who police are not identifying. He was also shot and is said to be in stable condition suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Sources said the pair were at Red's Bar just before the shooting, walking down the street to their car when two suspects approached them, and someone opened fire.
"My baby was a good girl. She was a good girl. She didn't have a criminal background. She wasn't into the streets. She wasn't into the nonsense. She worked all the time," Sowell said.
Sowell said. Jackson was a nurse and worked hard to provide for her children. Understandably upset and angry, she demanded that witnesses fess up.
Police may have a vehicle description.
A witness described an older model Pontiac Grand Prix, possibly gold or tan, fleeing the area after the shooting.
