Man Hospitalized, Wife Arrested Following Domestic Dispute

SOUTH STRABANE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - A man is in the hospital and his wife is in custody after a Tuesday night shooting in South Strabane Township.

According to police, the incident happened in the Stone Creek community in the 3000-block of Clubhouse Circle around 8:45 a.m.

"I just heard some woman screaming and then I just heard a shot," Ilana Albritton said. "She was out to kill him. I mean, four times, really? And then chased him out?"

It is believed that a domestic dispute led to a woman shooting her husband, Tyler Stapp. She was taken in for questioning and was later arrested.

"We have evidence to believe that the shooting did spill over to the outside area of the apartment," Det. Ken Torboli said.

When police arrived, they found Tyler bleeding heavily in an upstairs bedroom. They also found Latasha Stapp, 25, standing outside crying while talking on her cell phone.

"She did indicate that she was the shooter," Det.Torboli said.

Tyler was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition.

Neighbors said she had recently been dealing with personal and addiction problems.

Two children, ages 5 to 7, were inside at the time and possibly witnessed the shooting.

"Fortunately, the children who were in the apartment when the shooting occurred were not injured," Det.Torboli said.

The kids have been placed in the custody of Washington County Children and Youth Services.

Stapp is being charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and reckless endangering the welfare of another person in addition to firearms violations.

Currently, she is being held at the Washington County Jail on $250,000 straight cash bond.
