Liberty Tunnel Incidents Damage 4 Cars, Injure 2

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A series of events led to damage to four vehicles and two people being sent to the hospital in ambulances.

Police are currently looking for a driver that started the whole thing.

What started as a relatively minor fender-bender turned into much a larger ordeal Thursday morning.

"The guy hit me on the back, then he run. I chased him from the exit, down to in here," Denny Nguyen said.

Nguyen was crossing the Veteran's Bridge toward Downtown around 8:30 a.m.

He said he was rear-ended by the driver of a maroon Toyota Scion. The impact was enough to cut the spare tire cover in two places and push in the tailgate of his Toyota Rav4.

But that wasn't the end of it. He and the other driver kept going across the Liberty Bridge and into the Liberty Tunnel.

"I got in front of him and stop him -- and he tried to run," Nguyen said.

Nguyen stopped in an effort to get the attention of a PennDOT worker at the Liberty tubes.

"I tried to go the guy in the tunnel who works here. He came out and the guy [ran] over him on the leg -- and he gone," Nguyen said.

The driver of the Scion left the scene on Route 51 toward Bausman. The PennDOT worker was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

However, there was a third incident.

A woman, who stopped for the commotion at the Liberty tubes put her car in reverse to get around the traffic -- and hit the vehicle behind her.

The passenger in that car also was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

As for Nguyen, his car is drivable, but police still don't know who hit him or where he went.
