90-Year-Old Man Charged For Punching State Trooper

EAST WHEATFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- State police in Indiana County say they have charged a 90-year-old man for punching a state trooper who was called to his home to check on the well-being of an elderly woman.

The incident happened at a home on Donelson Road in East Wheatfield Township last Friday afternoon.

According to state police, charges have been filed against 90-year-old Russell Stiffler of Seward.

Police say troopers were called to his home to check on the welfare of an elderly woman living there.

State police report that before their arrival, Stiffler said "he would shoot any state trooper or EMS personnel that arrived there."

When police arrived, authorities say Stiffler met them on the porch but refused to obey their requests to show his hands, come off of the porch and lie on the ground.

State police say that's when Stiffler punched Trooper Scott Mackanick in an attempt to resist arrest.

Tropper Mackanick was not injured in the incident.
