Win Money For Losing Weight Through Online Program

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Dieting for dollars is a concept that's catching on across the country and a local woman is a big winner for losing.

It's weight loss with a twist. You actually gamble money on your weight loss. if you lose, you win and a local woman won more than $500.

Amy Goodman is light on her feet, able to climb hills and a bundle of energy.

"I can't believe how much I can do now. It's just awesome," Goodman said.

When we first met Goodman more than a year ago, she was over 200 pounds. She and her co-workers were in a weight loss competition, vying for the grand prize of $10,000.

"$10,000 is a real good motivation," Goodman said.

Lose weight-- gain money is the brainchild of David Roddenberry who is the CEO of Healthy Wage. His company's concept is simple - gambling on losing weight works.

"You're putting up some money to win money. It's making weight loss fun, more achievable, and more successful," Roddenberry said.

Amy's team didn't win the $10,000 but she won money for losing 83 pounds.

Losing all that weight gained Amy $100 in prize money from Healthy Wage in the BMI Challenge. She had one year to get to a healthy body mass index and she did it.

She said trying to win that money was a big motivator to eat right, work out and shed those pounds.

"If I don't exercise, I feel like I am missing something," Goodman said.

Amy no longer needs her cholesterol medicine either.

"And I don't have to worry about my knees hurting all the time," Goodman said.

Her weight loss also gained Amy a new wardrobe, though she's hoping for a makeover as well.

KDKA-TV sent her to Izzazu salon in downtown Pittsburgh for that makeover she wanted. They colored and cut her hair and gave her a sleek new style.

She also went on a shopping spree at the Mall at Robinson for some new outfits for her new figure.

Goodman won $500 dollars from her company because she lost so much weight doing the team challenge with her co-workers.
