Volunteers Needed To Help Rebuild Latrobe Playground

LATROBE (KDKA) -- The Latrobe Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to help rebuild the Playland at Legion Keener Park.

A large portion of the well-known playground was destroyed by a case of arson last June that remains unsolved. It was initially built by volunteers in 1992.

Volunteers will help with sanding and staining as well as drilling and pre-cutting boards. No experience is needed.

The new park will be equipped with security cameras to prevent future vandalism.

The playground will be ADA accessible and use new and improved materials.

Nearly all supplies are being donated by 84 Lumber.

Local churches and restaurants will be donating food for volunteers during construction. Childcare will be provided.

Volunteers are needed Monday, April 22 to Saturday, April 27. The goal is to get about 250 volunteers per day.

The grand opening is set for Sunday, April 28 at 6 p.m.

If you are interested and able to help with the rebuilding effort you should email the program director at: craig@latroberecreation.org
