Pirates Make 9 Roster Moves

BRADENTON, Fla. (93-7 The Fan) - The Pirates named Jeff Locke their fifth starter Wednesday as they made nine roster moves.

Kyle McPherson was battling with Locke to make the rotation, but he was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis along with infielder Jordy Mercer and outfielder Alex Presley.

Presley was the Pirates opening day left fielder last year.

Also sent to minor league camp, catchers Lucas May and Carlos Paulino, outfielder Felix Pie and pitchers Vin Mazzaro, Mike Zagurski and Ryan Reid.

"It's incredibly challenging," General Manager Neal Huntington told the KDKA Morning News of making the last major roster moves.

"The most challenging of the six years I have been here. We've sent some guys to Triple-A that deserve to be in the big leagues."
