Police Find Firearms In Munhall Home After SWAT Incident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police say that 74-year-old Bernadette Scholl was shot in the head and found lying on a bed in the living room of her Munhall home Thursday.

Charged with homicide is her 41-year-old son, Anthony Scholl, who barricaded himself upstairs in the home before finally coming out of the residence.

The Allegheny County SWAT Team surrounded the house as negotiations continued for several hours.

Police said they had to use a Taser on Scholl in order to safely take him into custody.

After getting a search warrant, investigators found three firearms on the second floor of Scholl's Longfellow Drive residence, where he had been holed up.

Bernadette Scholl's close friend, Judi Joyner said tearfully, "I can't believe her son killed her. We knew he was going to do something."

Munhall Police learned there was a problem at the home after the suspect's sister told them that her brother, who had served a jail term for shooting and wounding his ex-wife, had called her and said, "I shot mom last night because she upset me."
